Farewell to Summer!

CuteTeachings_8.24.16-36Happy Labor Day weekend, everyone! For many, this weekend marks the unofficial end to summer. And well some may be saddened by this, I could not be more excited! This summer was amazing, especially the month of August! Alejandro and I celebrated our three year anniversary on August 8th. I am so grateful for everything our relationship has created, and I am looking forward to seeing what else it brings. We had his sister visit us for two weeks, which it is always great to visit with family. Plus, we got to act like tourists in our own city, and dine out at delicious restaurants. Finally, Alejandro, Piper, and I were able to take a vacation together! I was able to show them all my favorite New England spots. Overall, I would say that August has been my favorite month this summer, by far. But as much fun as we had, there is always something so exciting about fall and the beginning of the school year. With the cold air comes the possibility of fresh starts and new opportunities. I’m feeling super motivated, and this outfit is only making me even happier! After all, fall is my favorite season, and I cannot wait for new beginnings and the transition in fashion!CuteTeachings_8.24.16-13 CuteTeachings_8.24.16-7 CuteTeachings_8.24.16-2CuteTeachings_8.24.16-33 CuteTeachings_8.24.16-29 CuteTeachings_8.24.16-26 CuteTeachings_8.24.16-23 CuteTeachings_8.24.16-19

How to Wear a LBD During the Summer

DSC_0900 Happy Wednesday, guys! We made it half way through the week, and I am one day closer to a four-day weekend! Yay!

***

Lately my boyfriend and I have really been trying to focus on the time we spend together. We have been living together, in Boston, for almost two years now. But even though we live together, it doesn’t always mean that we get to spend quality time (or as I like to call it, QT) together. By that I mean, we are not just hanging out, sippin’ drinks, and doing the Netflix and Chill thing. We are both super busy people. Our nightly routine usually consists of eating dinner, doing a recap on our days, and then sitting at our desks, working. (But hey, at least those desks are next to each other!) Adulthood, am I right?!

Even though we are both always on the go, or always working, we make time every week for a date. Now, my go-to color has always been black. But now that it’s summer time, can I wear a black dress? Shouldn’t I be bursting at the seams to wear color? I’m going to answer the first question with a ‘yes’, and the second one with a ‘no’.

Sure, there are a ton of girls who have dying to whip out everyone color in the rainbow and style them into one outfit. But that’s not everyone. And if you want to look and feel great, you need to dress to your liking. Because if you don’t, that’s what we call peer pressure, my friend.

So, for all you lovers of the all-black look, I have come up with a few ways to wear a black dress this summer! My outfit was for a date night, but you can apply these rules for a casual summer dress as well.

1- Keep it casual, but not too casual. This will make your dress feel more like a summer dress. I would say, if your dress is tight, it should be cotton. (Makes it a little dressed down.) If it is loose, it should be chiffon or some other material. (Makes it a little dressed up.)

2- Add a summery denim jacket.

3- Add pops of color with your accessories.

4- Add excitement by wearing a pair of statement black sandals.

5- Style with bright brown accessories.

Espadrille Sneakers

DSC_0712

I have always been a fan of black. Three years ago, you would most likely find me in black pants, black tops, and-you guessed it-black accessories. I thrived in it! It’s when I felt my best. However, time has passed. And although I will always have a special place in my heart for all black outfits, I find that I am loving colors that I was never into before. Beige, white, ivory, orange, maroon-colors have worked their way into heart and into my closet. That’s one of the wonderful things about fashion and style. There are of course timeless classics, but they’re also forever changing. And as you grow as a person, your style will grow with you! If you had looked at “college Jennifer” she would be in black, gray, and cheetah print everything. Flash forward four years (thank God) and you find her in this colorful look, and loving it!

I must admit that at first I was a little wary of the espadrille trend. In theory, they look like the perfect summer shoe. However, I found that the straw souls would wear down quickly and become lopsided. It. Was. Annoying. Such beautiful shoes were creating a big pet peeve for me. I mean, I am constantly on my feet, I need a pair of shoes that can keep up. Thankfully, Nine West has solved my dilemma by creating the espadrille sneakers! These amazing shoes have the espadrille style, shape, and make, but a rubber sole under the straw lining. They look adorable and feel great! I became so in love with the these beauties that I bought myself another pair in ‘light natural’ suede. And best of all, they match my favorite Tory Burch purse!
