What to Wear: Day Date at the Beach

Hey, loves! I hope you all enjoyed your weekend, and that your week is off to a great start. I was super excited for this past weekend because my boyfriend and I planned a day trip to Santa Barbara! We woke up early, cooked breakfast together, and then packed a picnic for us and our fur baby.

Since the weather was only in the seventies yesterday, I wanted to share with you my beach OOTD! For summer the typical beach look is a cute bathing suit and a fun cover up. But what do you wear when you’re just there to walk along the beach, browse the shops, and munch on delicious seafood? I chose to wear a crop top, comfortable shorts, and a lite weight sweater for our day date. For these California “June gloom” days, it’s important to layer. State Street (one of the main shopping areas in Santa Barbara) can get pretty warm because you’re walking in the sun. But drive ten minutes to the coast and it will get windy real fast. And of course, you can never go wrong with a pair of white Keds. Trust me, if you’re heading to a beach town like Santa Barbara, you do not want to wear sandals. There are so many cute shops, and delicious places to eat, you’ll lose track of time while walking around (like I did), and your feet will be sore from all the exploring. Remember, the goal is to be cute but comfortable.

  1. Love the styling! I always feel like flat sneakers such a keds look cute on everyone else lol. I’m short and have curves but need more options for shorts and comfy shoes that actually look good on me, that is. Any suggestions girl?

    1. Thanks for reading, Colleen! For sneakers I always go with Keds or New Balance. The New Balance Retro Lifestyle sneakers are my favorite because they are extremely comfortable. I have about three pairs. A black and white pair to go with everything, and then two funky colored ones. I love to go to the New Balance Factory Store in Brighton, MA. It’s pretty big and you get the shoes cheap there. They are ALWAYS having sales. If New Balance aren’t your thing, then I would definitely take a look at DSW.com. They have a large variety of shoes, and if you’re a rewards member (it’s free), then you can rack up a lot of points. As for shorts, I only buy from H&M and Express. Express can be a bit pricey, but their jeans are very stretchy and last a long time. I hope that that helps! 🙂
